Arutmin safety standards have earned national and international safety awards. The company retains the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) policies established during BHPBilliton ownership of Arutmin. These policies accord with ISO 14001, OHSAS 18000, and SA 8000 standards.

Arutmin's OH&S policies require that :

• safety risks be identified at each site
• safety standards comply with Government requirements
• equipment be properly maintained
• safety induction be tailored for people from different cultures
• hygiene be maintained
• non-conformance be investigated.

Workers must perform duties safely at all times and report any accidents in or outside company premises, in or outside working hours.

Arutmin ensures all employees are insured by Jamsostek, the state-owned insurance company for Indonesian employees. Jamsostek provides coverage for accident, death, and old age. Under the company's labour agreement with workers, working carelessly is a serious crime which warrants termination without a warning letter or separation pay.

Arutmin conducts internal and external safety audits.
