The Mulia and Asam-asam reserves, forming a south-eastern continuation of the Satui strike, accesses the Warukin Formation of the Miocene age. The extremely low ash and sulphur contents of this sub-bituminous coal make it clean-burning and therefore environmentally friendly.
The Mulia and Asam-asam coal deposit is 65 km strike in length, consisting of Mulia; west and north Asam-asam, Block C, and Jumbang coal deposits.
Mulia and Asam-asam mines production advantages are the low strip ratio, thick coal seams, and access to existing transport and barge facilities at Satui mine.
Mulia and Asam-asam coal is crushed but requires no washing.
The Batulicin lease areas are divided onto Ata, Mereh, Saring, Mangkalapi deposits which are located at the east sector of Block 6, approximately 50 kilometres north of Batulicin, South Kalimantan.
Ata coal is characterized by low ash, high sulphur, high Cv -, Mereh & Saring coal is characterized by high ash, low sulphur, low CV.
Given the quality differentiation at these deposits, each deposit must be operated as separate unit
The Ata coal should be blended with the Mereh and Saring deposits and washed to enhance the marketability of the final product.
The Mulia mine is part of Asam-asam mine, which is included in DU 322. This Mulia mine produces good quality ecocoals and a lot of them are used as fuel for domestic steam-energy power station.
The Satui mine lies south and west of the Senakin mine at the basal sequence of the Tanjung Formation, on the south-eastern slopes of the Meratus mountains. This area generates high quality bituminous coal.
Like the Senakin strike, the Satui strike stretches approximately 40 km north-east to south-west, running parallel to the coastline at about 20 km inland.
The Satui mine comprises the deposits of Karuh, Kintap, Satui and Bukit Baru. Satui coal seams are sub-divided based on ash content.
Satui requires crushing but, given its low ash content, no washing. Satui coals are crushed at facilities adjacent to the Muara Satui barge port. They are stacked into stockpiles representing different Satui products. Blending from these stockpiles allows coal to be loaded at desired quality specifications.
The Senakin mine lies in the Tanjung Formation of the Eocene Age which holds quality bituminous coal. The coal strike runs along an anticline stretching approximately 40 km from north to south paralleling the coast at about 14 km inland.
The Sangsang and Sepapah deposits of the mine are on the west wing of the anticline while the East Senakin deposit is on the east wing. The angle of these slopes varies between 5 and 15 degrees.
For mining and sales purposes Senakin coal seams are sub-divided according to sulphur content at different levels in the seam.
Senakin coal is crushed and, apart from a small portion, washed to lower the ash content and heighten marketability. East Senakin coal is processed in a Jig Plant (processing capacity 3.2 mt per annum).
Most West Senakin coal is processed in a Dense Media Plant (capacity 1.6 mt per annum). These processing plants have an 80 % recovery rate.
About 10% of West Senakin coal is transported direct to a barge port where it is crushed but remains unwashed and sold as ROM coal.
Senakin barges travel just 45 km to NPLCT, a 24-hour round trip, while Satui, Mulia, Asam-asam and Batulicin barges travel 130 km, a 40-hour round trip.
NPLCT contributes substantially to Arutmin'ss cost competitiveness. This deep-water port is near the 4 Arutmin mines and is designed to receive 4 barges simultaneously. Coal is moved by omestics conveyors. A rail-mounted coal-loader which travels the length of the vessel allows ocean vessels to remain stationary during loading.
Current NPLCT's inloading capacity to receive coal from the mine sites is approximately 14 mt coal per year. Shiploading capacity is roughly 14 mt yearly. In one year NPLCT handles approximately 160 ships and 1,700 barges.
With NPLCT Arutmin sets its own export pace free of reliance on external facilities. However, additional shipping options exist. This array of export options assists Arutmin's capacity to increase supply.
